Blackleach Country Park & Reservoir
Clifton Country Park is situated just off the A666 running through Clifton,
near Swinton, Greater Manchester. It is a beautiful nature reserve and has
ample facilities for walkers, cyclists, dog walkers and there is also a
separate bridleway track for horse riders. It incorporates Clifton Marina
which is also very popular for fishing. The park was awarded the Green Flag
both in 2006 and 2007. There is a Visitor Centre which houses an
information office with small gift shop and toilet facilities.
Blackleach Country Park is to the north of walkden heading up towards
Farnworth on the A575, Bolton Road. There is a Visitor Centre which can
be found at the carpark off Hill Top Road and there is a second carpark
being accessed off Harcourt Street. Both car parks are clearly sign posted
off the main road. Blackleach Country Park is a haven for wildlife and
there is a beautiful reservoir which attracts all sorts of nature. The park
boasts wellcared for hard surfaced tracks making it a good visiting place
for people with disabilities. There are several entrance points which have
stiles but the main carpark has A frame entrances allowing wheelchair
users access. This is another of Salfords parks which holds the Green Flag
Award for 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Ringley Old Bridge is an Ancient
Monument which was built in 1677 at a
cost of £500 to replace a wooden
bridge that was washed away by a
flood in 1673. For many years this was
the only crossing point of the River
Irwell. Today it is a pedestrian only link
between Ringley Road and Folds Road.
The Lord Nelson is on one side of the
bridge and The Horseshoe Inn is on
the other.

Irwell Sculpture Trail (Outwood Section)
The Irwell Valley Sculpture Trail is a beautiful 30 mile route from Manchester to Bacup
up the Irwell Valley. It boasts 30 sculptures along its scenically-varied route. The local
part of the trail is known as the Outwood Trail which spans from Prestwich to
Radcliffe and is approximately 4km, this is a particularly good track for walkers as there
is actually two tracks, one for the horse riders and one for walkers and cyclists. There
are a number of access poihts but the Outwood Trail has a carpark facility at the
Outwood Community Parkland site just off Ringley Road (A667), Outwood Village. The
Millennium woodland is also situated alongside the Outwood Trail which can be easily
accessed from the car park.
